Fact Check: NOT Houthis executing man with tank, this clip from 2015 shows ISIS killing

This video shows Islamic State militants crushing a teenage soldier working in the Syrian Air Force Intelligence in 2015.

A horrific video making the rounds on social media shows a tank running over a bound prisoner.

The man, dressed in orange, had his hands and legs tied up and could be seen attempting to hop away from the tank before getting crushed.

Those sharing the clip claimed that these were Houthi militants punishing a man from Yemen.

One person shared the video on X writing, "Warning: Disturbing video.

A Yemeni national is crushed under a tank as per punishment by Houthi terrorists for not believing that Earth is flat.

As per Islam, it is considered sacrilege. This is against what is written in Q’uran".

India Today Fact Check found that this is an old video showing ISIS militants crushing a Syrian soldier with a tank in October 2015.

Reverse searching keyframes from the viral video led us to an X post featuring the video in question.

According to it, the video showed ISIS militants running over a man named Fadi Zidan in 2015.

With the help of this clue, we found several media reports about this incident.

A Daily Express report from 2015 stated that Islamic State militants kidnapped a Syrian soldier and ran him over by a tank in Homs, Syria.

They reportedly forced the captive to confess to driving over dead bodies of ISIS militants with tanks. Following the victim’s confession, he was sentenced to the same punishment as his alleged crime.

We also found an extended version of the video in which the victim and a militant dressed from head-to-toe in white spoke to the camera before the execution.

Per reports, the victim was a 19-year-old soldier working in the Syrian Air Force Intelligence named Fadi Amr al-Zaydan, who hailed from the village of Sian in the northern Latakia province.

ISIS reportedly released the video of the execution on October 24, 2015, two days after a joint Kurdish-American rescue operation in Hawija, Iraq, in which 69 ISIS hostages were rescued, six militants were detained, and more than 20 militants were killed.

It is thus, clear that a 2015 video of ISIS militants executing a Syrian soldier was falsely shared as Houthis punishing a man from Yemen.
