Why did prisoners kneel down so obediently and consciously when their heads were beheaded in ancient times?

Nowadays, costume dramas are flooding the screen, and there are many fans. Many people are even influenced by their usual speech, and Hanfu has also become popular on the street.

Some scenes in the play seem to be justified, and no one will go into the reasons for it. For example, when they committed capital crimes and were executed in those days, why did they kneel down obediently instead of resisting?

The audience may think that if the crime is deserved, then kneel down. However, the grievances were serious, and instead of pleading for themselves, they obediently knelt down to be tortured, feeling unreasonable.

Even if you don't want to appeal or resist, you have to stand at the very least to show your manhood and to show your resistance to the government's judgment.

In fact, their kneeling is not necessarily a manifestation of their own hearts. There are roughly three reasons why they kneel and suffer torment.

The first reason is that no matter what era, the death penalty is not a trivial matter. Functional departments at all levels must strictly review to avoid unjust cases. The same was true in ancient times.

The trial cycle of each case was very long, especially in death penalty cases.

Prisoners often have to go through arraignments over and over again, and may also be sentenced to punishment during arraignments.

Law enforcement officials also have to investigate and collect evidence for a long time, repeatedly verifying that they are correct.

After the verdict is conclusively pronounced, it must be reviewed and approved by higher-level departments.

Several months may have passed by the time of the final execution, and some even after several years, if there is a reversal in the middle, the waiting time will be longer.

This is the case in the famous injustice case of the Qing Dynasty "Yang Naiwu and Xiaobaicai". Yang Naiwu's sister filed several appeals and finally let her brother get unjustified, which lasted several years.

During this period of waiting, those prisoners are generally held in cold and damp cells.

The food must be terrible. A few people are locked up together, the accommodation conditions are not good, and the quality of sleep is worse. Who can still sleep when they die.

In addition, the same prisoner will be arraigned or executed at any time, all of which stimulate the sensitive nerves in their brains.

After such a tormenting day, as time goes on, various functions of the body decline. Illness is a common occurrence, and illnesses are generally not treated in time, procrastinating.

When it comes to execution, their physical strength and energy have long been exhausted, and it is very likely that even standing is a problem.

The officer shouted again, kneeling in terror.

The second reason is government enforcement. Some prisoners were misjudged or dissatisfied, and they were unwilling to be killed. The guards or executioners would force them to kneel. There are two reasons.

One is to show respect for the law and to stand unruly, and to kneel to show that they plead guilty and to commit crimes; the other is that it is convenient for the executioner to cut his head, raise the knife and fall with his hand, and feel very imposing.

If the prisoner is standing, his height is more than ten feet tall.

The executioner can't jump up and chop it. Besides, it affects efficiency and violates the law.

It is not just beheading to kneel down, but in some places the death penalty is death by hanging, that is, strangulation.

You must kneel down during the specific execution, and the reason is the same as that of beheading.

In fact, no matter how it is executed, people lie on their backs when they die.

There were many types of punishments in ancient times, and there were countless people who caused death.

It is not necessarily that every kind of execution is performed on the knees, for example, Ling Chi, who has to "thousand cuts" on the prisoner.

Cut off the flesh of the prisoner with a single knife, and disassemble all parts of his body, and cut him a thousand cuts before he can die. It is true that life is better than death.

The criminals are so painful that they can't hold on themselves, so how can they still kneel. There are also cuts in the middle and cracks in the car.

Prisoners usually lie on their backs to receive punishment.

The third reason is that their mental state is very poor and they have no energy or strength to stand.

It's about to die, whether it deserves it or not. Nobody's mood is happy, they are all walking dead. Whatever others say, it's all here, and any resistance won't work.
