Man severs his 'unfaithful' wife's head and dances with it in the park before parading it through village - three years after he was mauled by a lion when he jumped into its enclosure

A man in India has behë_@ded his wife and is reported to have taken the severed head to the park to dance with it.

Gautam Guchhait, 40, from Chistipur village near Calcutta believed his wife Phulrani, 27, had been unfaithful and brutally murdered her in an act of revenge.

This comes three years after he made headlines around the world for jumping in to a lion enclosure at a zoo and being rescued by staff.

The killer who appears in the video soaked in his wife's blood, used a knife to cut her head off.

He then took the head, which was still dripping with blood, around the village, showing off what he had done.

The video shows the man holding the head by the hair, raising it up - and warning locals to stay away.

Guchhait was seen by locals taking the head to the park, where he proceeded to dance with it.

When he was finished, he carried it to a bench, put it down next to him and sat down.

It was there that he was arrested.

Guchhait claimed that his wife had been having an affair behind his back and that was his reasoning behind the beheading.

He was taken into custody and police officers searched his house where they found the rest of the body.

Soumyadwip Bhattacharya of the district police said: 'The motive for the murder will only become clear to us after a thorough inquiry.

'Based on the evidence, we believe that the murder may have been caused by a family quarrel.'

This isn't the first time Guchhait has made headlines.

In 2021, he decided to buy a ticket for a zoo, walked around for the morning - and then jumped into a lion's cage.

At the time, he was said to be dressed like a holy man and was drunk.

After being mauled and suffering wounds to his shoulder and neck, he was rescued by zoo staff and taken to the West Bengal city’s SSKM Hospital for emergency care.

The cage was home to an endangered Asiatic lion, native to the Gir Forest in the Junagadh district of Gujarat.
