The following is excerpts from the diary of Danish-German sanitary soldier Iver Henningsen from the 60th Reserve-Sänitats-Company, at a field hospital during the Second Battle of the Masurian Lakes on the Eastern Front on February 13, 1915 - today 109 years ago. Translated by myself:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

"On the 13th we established our large field hospital and I was in charge of two wards. One of them is almost filled up, with 14 light-wounded, mostly leg and arm injures. In the other one, where I stay myself, lie 8 severely wounded.

Now it was time to work; of course everyone had to lay on hay on the floor. Only in a single bed was a young and voluntary artilleryman placed. He had both hands and head, mostly the nose, torn apart by shrapnel. The poor thing, who could neither eat nor move himself, was however the most patient and grateful of them all. I wrote a letter of condolence to his mother.

Another patient, a theologian, had a bullet in the head, from which the brain mass was completely exposed. In his fever hallucinations he still screamed for his mother, accused me of being a barbarian and would still tear off his bandaging, so at last we had to tie his hands to the walls. One day, when I tried to give him something to drink, he spat directly in my face, etc.

Another patient and young volunteer had 5 wounds, and with his gallows humor he told the doctor: "What a shame, I would have liked to have had another, then I would have half a dozen."

In the entire field hospital we now have over 400 wounded, everything - even halls and corridors - are occupied. But where's my good comrade 'Kall' gone to? Only after a few days I'm told he's located at an abbey nearby together with another 40 wounded, all of whom they had brought in themselves."

  The Bisbee Massacre:  Part Three The event forever known as the Bisbee Massacre took place on Main Street at the Castaneda and Goldwater Mercantile Emporium on December 8, 1883. What started as a robbery to grab the monthly payroll of the Copper Queen Mine escalated to murder leaving five people dead including Annie Roberts’s unborn child.  The bandits escaped and in an extraordinary and effective effort by County Sheriff Jerome Ward and his deputies all were captured and jailed in Tombstone in just 45 days. The five gang members who committed the robbery and murders—Red Sample, Tex Howard, Mick Kelly, Big Dan Dowd and Billy Delaney—went to trial on February 9.  Judge David H.     I have never read anything more horrific than this. 😭 The photo below  shows Italian General Alexandro Luzano standing above a slaughtered Serbian child in front of a school in Prebilovci. The letter he sent to Mussolini after this crime has been preserved in the military archives: "Dear Duce, WATCH:  MAKE MONEY FROM CRYPTO 2024 My boundless devotion to you, I hope, entitles me to deviate in some way from strict military protocol. That is why I hasten to describe to you an event that I personally attended three weeks ago.
