Today 105 years ago, on July 4, 1918, the Battle of Hamel was fought between Australian, U.S. and German forces.


In March and April 1918, the Germans launched their Spring Offensive on the Somme river, achieving major advances. By July 1918, the German offensives elsewhere along the front were running out of steam and their morale was low, therefore the Allies planned to go on the counter-offensive.


In the German Spring Offensive, the Australians were attacked at the village of Villers-Bretonneux, where they halted the German advance in April 1918.


A small-scale attack on the village of Le Hamel near Villers-Bretonneux was planned, where a small salient in the Allied lines had been formed. The attack would be carried out by the Australian Corps. The battle was planned by Australian Corps Commander Monash, who did it meticulously.


There would be a big emphasis on infantry-artillery-airplane-tank coordination, communication between units, and the creeping barrage would be precise and thorough.


Although Monash laid the battle plan and did it very well, it must be noted he himself did not invent these tactics, and that they'd all been deployed in battle beforehand.


The attack would be carried out on July 4, 1918 primarily by the Australian 4th Division together with units from other Australian Divisions as reinforcements, totalling 7,500 troops. The Australians would have 628 artillery guns and 64 new British Mark V tanks. They were up against 5,600 German troops holding Le Hamel. A diversionary attack would also be carried out further north at Ville-sur-Ancre. 


The Australians were also promised 10 American Companies for support and in order for those to get much-needed experience, but 6 of these Companies were withdrawn in the last minute, much to the outrage of Monash.


At 3:10 AM on July 4, 1918, the Australians and Americans attacked along a 6 km front at Le Hamel, supported by 62 tanks and a creeping barrage.

    I have never read anything more horrific than this. 😭 The photo below  shows Italian General Alexandro Luzano standing above a slaughtered Serbian child in front of a school in Prebilovci.    Mata Hari was a Dutch woman who became famous as an exotic dancer during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She traveled throughout Europe, performing for wealthy clients. During World War I, Mata Hari's career came to an abrupt end when she was accused of spying for the Germans. The French authorities arrested her in February 1917 and charged her with espionage, and subsequently sentenced to death.   The Bisbee Massacre:  Part Three The event forever known as the Bisbee Massacre took place on Main Street at the Castaneda and Goldwater Mercantile Emporium on December 8, 1883. 6 years ago 19 Yazidi women and girls were burned in Mosul Women and girls from Sinjar were kidnapped by ISIL during the genocide on 03.08.2014. They were humiliated, beaten and raped, bought and sold at the local market as if they were things.  After being sold again, the women refused EN masse to serve as ISIS sex slaves and were burned alive as punishment for their insubordination. A cage with Yazidi girls and women was set up in the middle of Mosul. Hundreds of people looked at the fate of the Yazidis and did nothing about it. THE TERRIBLE STORY AND EXECUTION OF THE THREE MURDERERS AT TYBURN "A DAY NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN

 Three murderers at Tyburn In 1751 Parliament passed an Act “for better preventing the horrid crime of murder” which specified that a person convicted of murder was to be kept in chains and fed on only bread and water and to be hanged within 48 hours, unless that would have been a Sunday in which case the execution was carried out on the following Monday. This Act mandated the dissection or gibbeting of the murderer's body after execution.  The boy who vanished in the mountains, 1969 Dennis Lloyd Martin was a six-year-old boy who disappeared in the Smoky Mountains with his family on a yearly camping trip in June of 1969. The Martins met with family friends on the second day of their trip and made their way to Spence Field, a spot known for its good views.  Dennis, his brother William, and 2 children from the family they met on the second day decided to run ahead of the adults and hide in the woods around Spence field to scare the adults when they arrived.
