Beria cried like a baby when he heard he was going to be executed

There was an official investigation back in 1999 to figure out what had exactly happened.

Beria was not even present at the trial (which was held behind closed doors), he had been executed two days earlier on 21 December 1953 by Stanislav Gribanov.

According to Gribanov, he cried and shit himself before he was gunned down.

The trial itself (which included plenty of other people) was pretty much a legal mess. When the tribunal could not reach a unanimous verdict; Marshal Koniev sent in armed troops and asked them to vote again … the second vote was unanimous.

Apparently, Molotov was the only one who protested against these “illegal proceedings”.

Alas, by 1999, there had been so many investigations and re-trials to set straight Soviet history and judicial crimes that nobody took notice anymore, we are literally talking about tens of thousands of cases

There are some references to his crying but more references to his groveling and begging.

According to Batitsky’s wife, just before being shot dead, Beria had “implored him for mercy, grovelling on his knees”. Her executioner husband had bluntly responded by saying, “In all that you have done, so loathsome, mean and nasty, can you not find enough courage in yourself to accept your punishment in silence?”

According to General Moskalenko, Beria fell to the floor and begged on his knees for mercy. It was not a quality he had shown to others, and it was not shown to him.

Another witness relates that Soviet general executed him in his underground cell, and Beria crawled on his knees begging for mercy.

Richard Rhodes writes about his crying. He states that as the death sentence was carried out, Beria pleaded on his knees for mercy before collapsing to the floor and wailing and crying, but to no avail. Rhodes, Richard (1995). Dark Sun: The Making of the Hydrogen Bomb. New York, NY, USA: Touchstone. p. 523. ISBN 0-684-80400-X. "A Soviet general, Pavel Batitsky, carried out the sentence of death in Beria's cell. Batitsky's widow reports that the great man who had enjoyed personally torturing his victims crawled on his knees and begged for mercy."
